Best wishes to hip hop legend MCA of The Beastie Boys who was sadly diagnosed with cancer this week. Thankfully, he described the tumor in his salivary gland as ‘very treatable.' Best wishes. Their forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee has, understandably, been put on hold for a little while. But just to tide the people over until it drops the much hyped Nas collabo Too Many Rappers will be released as a limited edition 12".
So Jay has responded to Game's I'm So Wavy, but not in the usual way. He hasn't actually gone to the trouble of recording anything. He hasn't even dropped a subliminal. Simply referring to Game as a 'groupie' during an interview with Tim Westwood is a masterfully dismissive Hov way of confronting an adversary. Who knows how he really feels, but he did an excellent job of sounding not even slightly alarmed. Will Game just get over it as he was advised? Not likely really. He's either preparing a diss song right now or he's wondering what other mayhem he can cook up. He'll most likely continue to talk mess about Jay on whatever stage he happens to be on while deciding. While that happens, Jay will be sorting out the all important jump off single for The Blueprint 3. Originally meant to feature man of the moment Drake, the joint, reportedly called Run This Town, now co-stars Kanye and Rihanna after Drake allegedly passed on signing to Roc Nation. Kanye and Rihanna? He's really pulling all the stops out.
One beef that appears to be at an end is the one that was brewing between Joe Budden and a growing number of Wu-Gambinos. Joey and Method Man walked some dogs and talked like men without any media mofos getting in the way and stirring things. This is good 'cos now Wu-Tang don't have to battle Slaughterhouse with all of the extra problems that could have caused. That would have been the wrong kind of messy. Any rappers in beef should look at this situation and learn.
In other supergroup news Madlib, the king of collabo albums, has linked up with Guilty Simpson ( who as a member of both Heltah Skeltah and Random Axe has a few affiliations himself) to form a duo called OJ Simpson. Don't get too excited. The duo are named after Madlib's government Otis Jackson not the begloved ex-football player who led the LAPD on the most famous car chase of all time. Coroner's Music, the first song to see the light of day, is definitely rough, rugged and raw.
Anyone old enough to remember favourites like Ladies First and, later, U.N.I.T.Y will be intrigued at Queen Latifah's new album. She doesn't have to do it. She's been getting that Hollywood money for a minute now, so it must be for the love of the game.
The Clipse have finally got a release date too. Till The Casket Drops will now see the light of day in October. Let's hope it's not pushed back again.
Congratulations to Nas and Kelis on the birth of Knight Jones. Never mind the drama. You know that child has got some special musical genes. Can't wait for the debut album.
